This play challenges a scenic designer to lead with function and special effect when considering aesthetic decisions. As this set is intended to fall apart in predictable and repeatable ways, I began this design with heavy emphasis on concealing mechanisms, and diverting audience eyes away from revealing the secrets of function. Complimentary red and green colors play into the physical comedy and nod to the more serious tone of the "murder mystery." Treatments are intentionally left unfinished, though they have the perception of being executed with effort-even so. A special thanks to this production's technical director, Max Lydy, for his brilliant work in the technical production of this set. It functions first and foremost, as a machine to tell this story.
